Bioidentical Hormone Pellet Therapy

What Is Hormone Pellet Therapy?

Pellet implants are a unique way to treat hormone imbalances in our body. Customized to meet your individual needs, pellets are compounded hormones made from organic plant materials, which have the same molecular structure of those hormones found in our body.

In a simple, quick in-office procedure, your doctor inserts a prescribed number of rice-grain-sized bioidentical hormone pellets under the skin near the hip. These pellets will release steady small amounts of hormone(s) directly into your bloodstream for an average of 3-5 months.

Belmar Pharmacy, out of Golden, CO, will be our trusted source for these compounded pellets. Specialized sterilization techniques are used to ensure pellets are sterile and safe.

Benefits of Hormone Pellet Therapy

Considered the gold standard of hormonal therapy treatments, bioidentical hormone pellets are used to treat men and women with low hormone levels. They have the same molecular structure as natural human hormones and work the same way. Delivering these medications in pellet form has several benefits:

Consistency — Pellets supply a consistent level of hormones released in the bloodstream.

Closest to nature — Pellets mimic your body’s natural delivery system more closely than any other method.

Convenience —You don’t need to worry about remembering to take your medication daily. Hormone pellets only need to be inserted 2-4 times per year depending on what your physician prescribes and what works best for your body.

Fewer side effects — Pellet therapy bypasses the liver, sending hormones directly into the bloodstream, and avoiding certain side effects of oral medications.

Bioidentical hormone pellet therapy can be used to treat:

Menopause

The most common use of BHRT is to treat the symptoms of menopause in women. These symptoms can include hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, sleep problems, fatigue, mid-section weight gain, loss of muscle mass, foggy thinking, and mood changes.

Low Testosterone

Levels of testosterone normally decline with age. Some people have no symptoms, but it can cause men and women to experience low libido, sexual problems, hair loss, fatigue, loss of muscle and bone mass, fat gain (think beer belly for men), mood issues and memory problems.

Loss of Bone Density

Postmenopausal osteoporosis affects women during the first decade following menopause. Bones become brittle, fragile, and easy to fracture. This is one of the most common postmenopausal problems doctors treat with bioidentical hormone pellet therapy

Sexual Dysfunction

BHRT may help with vaginal dryness in women, decreased libido in both sexes, and sexual functioning issues in men.

Muscle and Strength Loss

Mood Disorders

What is a Body Composition Assessment?

The Advanced Body Composition® Assessment, also known as DXA or bone densitometry, accurately measures your body composition, identifying the percentage of fat, lean muscle mass, and bone. We would recommend the Advanced Body Composition® Assessment for one of the following reasons:

  • To identify your risk for obesity and obesity related diseases
  • To assess muscle loss due to osteoporosis
  • To monitor weight loss treatment programs
  • To monitor athletic conditioning
How does it work?

The Advanced BCA is part of a whole-body scan. It is similar to having an x-ray, but with much less radiation. During the scan, you lie on your back on the cushioned exam table of the DXA system while the arm of the system passes quickly over your body. It is that easy.

Dr. Val Schulte or Kelly DeBrosse, CNP will print and review the results with you after the procedure. These results can be shared with other healthcare providers or your personal trainer.

What information does an Advanced BCA provide?

A BCA report visually displays body composition data from the scan, showing us clearly where fat and muscle are located within your body. A BCA also measures and identifies the location of visceral fat, an important tool to help predict your risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

With regularly scheduled scans, we can chart changes in your body composition over time to evaluate the effects of weight management or conditioning programs. You can see where you are losing fat and where you are building muscle. These reports help you track progress.

How to Prepare for Your Advanced BCA test:

The Advanced Body Composition Assessment requires very little preparation

  • You may eat and drink normally
  • Do not take calcium supplements for 24 hours prior to your exam
  • You can dress in comfortable clothing
  • Avoid clothing with metal including zippers, buttons, or belt buckles

This is a self-referred service. Medical FSA and HSA accounts are approved forms of payment.

The scan takes 6 minutes, but you will need to allow 30 minutes from start to finish.
