Dr. Val Schulte
Gynecology / Lifestyle Medicine
I grew up in a small village of about 500 people in NW Ohio. I am the oldest of three girls and my parents both worked in factories. When I was in junior high, my maternal grandmother became sick with cancer. That’s when I became interested in medicine. I remember thinking
“When I grow up, I am going to find the cure for cancer.”
I attended Quincy University in Quincy, IL for my undergraduate degree. I was a premed student and graduated with a B.S. in Biological sciences and Chemistry in 1993. While there, I became friends with family practice residents who were osteopathic doctors. This is how I was introduced to and became interested in Osteopathic medicine.
I attended Ohio University-COM for medical school. Initially, I thought I wanted to become a pediatrician, but at the end of my second year I was introduced to obstetrics and gynecology – and a new passion bloomed.
After graduating from medical school in 1997, I stayed in Dayton for my residency and did most of my rotations at Grandview and Southview hospitals. After residency, I joined Contemporary OB/GYN in Dayton in 2001 and practiced there for 4 years. In May 2005, I changed positions and joined Wilson Health medical group in Sidney, OH.
Over the past 16 years at Wilson, I have had an amazing opportunity to practice OB/GYN. I have been very blessed to have a wonderful organization to work for. During this time I have been able to support women in some of their most vulnerable and private situations. I feel grateful to every woman who has trusted me with her healthcare.
So the question is – WHY am I leaving Wilson and transitioning to a membership-based practice? There are several reasons.
I crave true connection with my patients. Having a membership-based practice will allow me to serve these women more personally. After 20 years of delivering babies, I have helped many of my patients get beyond the childbearing years and they are now experiencing hormonal imbalances and menopause. I want to focus on helping them with this next phase of life.
I also have a huge passion for healthy living and reversing and preventing disease through lifestyle modifications.
I am excited to offer more time during each patient visit to help get to the root of problems – while also offering classes in the teaching kitchen and gym. I want to teach my patients the keys to optimizing health so they can live vibrant, purpose-filled lives. I will help with understanding why what we eat is so important and how exercise and movement affects our health. I will provide stress management tools and focus on sleep improvement.
Ultimately, I want to create a community of women who want to focus on improving their health and disease prevention so they can be strong and vibrant through all stages of their life.
Choosing HEALTH care over SICK care will impact these women and the people around them.
On a personal note, in my spare time I love to work out and cook. I owe everything I do and am to Jesus Christ my personal savior. It is because of him that I live and breathe every day. I want to shine his light and LOVE and DO GOOD THINGS.
